I’m available for some commissions
Vita: I received a BFA from Grinnell College and did graduate work for an MFA at the University of Iowa and Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. I taught art at Quincy Senior High School in Illinois for 2 years. In 1978 I began exhibiting my work in various galleries and traveling to upscale juried art fairs in Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Florida. My work has been purchased by banks, hospitals, corporations and is in many private homes. I also worked for an international collector plate company for 6 years and did a twenty-five foot mural for the Quincy, Illinois Public Library. I have won many awards for my paintings.
Additionally, I’ve been teaching art since 1967 and presently have 18 private students. My teaching method is to work individually with each student and discover their own path to expressing art. I interject into each lesson art principles and techniques; I believe learning while doing is the best way to absorb information. I also love art history and share my collection of art books for inspiration.
Finally, I guess I’d call my own art “intuitive”. I try to let the painting process lead me, rather than the opposite. I find this is not only fun but leads to more free expression. Incorporating elements from the world such as leaves, bark, shells, pearls, sand and fabrics (which I paint on) is also a real joy. To me, the artist’s mission is to share what we have learned so that we can pass it on to future artists. Making art is about giving and communicating ourselves to others.
