I began painting almost 20 years ago, which grew out of many years making photographs. I wanted more control in creating images and to work larger and to do this anywhere I happen to be. Painting seemed to be the perfect solution and it was something new I could explore. As a self-taught artist I regularly work with a variety of media including ink, watercolor, oil and acrylic and other media. My drawings in ink and ink wash have a hint of the past involved in their making. I like using antique nib handles and nibs because I feel they are better tools than more modern tools. They are very responsive to the touch on paper.
Landscapes and still life make up most of my work in oil, acrylic and watercolor.
I paint to remember places which I find to be particularly beautiful or peaceful; especially where I enjoy a long hike, a leisurely walk or a little fishing. A sense of quiet and solitude are evident in my acrylic, watercolor and oil paintings.
